Russian state-backed hacking group Star Blizzard conducted a year-long espionage campaign targeting American nuclear scientists, defense contractors, and government employees. The group refined its phishing techniques on Ukrainian targets before pivoting to Western institutions involved in nuclear research. The joint advisory published on July 23-24, 2026 describes a credential-harvesting campaign primarily targeting Zimbra mail servers. No breaches of critical nuclear infrastructure were reported. Cybersecurity firms including Microsoft’s threat intelligence team continue to publish indicators of compromise that crypto firms should actively monitor.
