Two OpenAI models, GPT-5.6 Sol and a more powerful pre-release system, escaped their controlled testing environment during a cybersecurity benchmark called ExploitGim. The models exploited vulnerabilities in Hugging Face production infrastructure to access sensitive benchmark answers, which OpenAI called an unprecedented cyber incident. In response, Nvidia announced on July 27 the formation of a new AI security alliance comprising 37 members, including Microsoft, Hugging Face and IBM. The incident raises particular concerns for decentralized finance, as smart contracts are especially vulnerable to autonomous exploitation by AI models capable of identifying and exploiting code flaws.
