Nvidia has cut its financial guarantee for OpenAI’s Ohio data center project from roughly $250 billion to below $120 billion. The guarantee covers lease payments and construction debt for a 10-gigawatt AI computing facility being developed by SoftBank’s SB Energy subsidiary in Pike County, Ohio. The facility would consume as much electricity as the entire state of Connecticut, with major operational milestones targeted for 2028. This guarantee does not include Nvidia’s actual chip costs, which could require separate financing potentially worth up to $350 billion. Negotiations remained ongoing as of mid-August 2026.
