MIT researchers have found that AI models systematically provide more conservative financial advice to women than men, creating a simulated wealth gap of about 4.1% over a lifetime, equivalent to approximately $60,000 less by age 60. The study, conducted by MIT Sloan School of Management, revealed that two-thirds of this gap stem from gendered language patterns in questions posed by women, and the remaining third from explicit gender cues detected by AI. More than half of adults in the US and UK now consult chatbots for financial advice, a figure that surpasses those seeking human financial advisors.
