Meta has purchased roughly 1,039 acres of land in Northeast El Paso, Texas, for approximately $8.5 million, or about $8,156 per acre. The company plans to build a data center campus with a capacity of 1 gigawatt, powered by a dedicated 366 MW natural gas power plant. The project budget has ballooned from an initial $1.5 billion announced in 2024 to over $10 billion in total projected investment. Construction is set to begin in October 2025, creating 1,800 construction jobs and eventually 100 permanent positions once operational. This major AI infrastructure expansion underscores the intensifying competition among hyperscalers for access to land, power, and connectivity.
