MARA Holdings, one of the world’s largest Bitcoin miners, has announced a partnership with Starwood Capital to convert its mining sites into AI and high-performance computing infrastructure. The company is initially targeting roughly 1 GW of capacity, with plans to scale beyond 2.5 GW. AI workloads can generate approximately $25 per kWh, a figure that dramatically outpaces Bitcoin mining returns per unit of power. MARA controls over 4 GW of energy capacity and recently sold approximately 20,000 BTC to repay debt and bonds. MARA shares surged 17% following the announcement on February 26, 2026.
