Manchester United’s post-Tezos era raises questions about crypto sponsorships in football

Manchester United’s partnership with Tezos, worth over £20 million annually, expired in June 2025. The English club is currently in advanced negotiations for a replacement deal estimated at over £18 million per year. This arrangement, once hailed as a landmark moment for blockchain credibility, was not renewed, and no new crypto or digital asset partnerships have been announced since mid-2025. Other major deals in sports, such as FTX’s arena naming rights in Miami or Crypto.com’s $700 million payment for the Staples Center, similarly illustrate the instability of these relationships between sports and digital assets.
