JPMorgan introduces CDS basket for AI hyperscalers amid rising hedging demand

Share

JPMorgan Chase launched in February 2026 a synthetic credit default swap basket covering five AI hyperscalers: Alphabet, Amazon, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, and Oracle. The product, traded in standardized blocks of $25 million ($5 million per company), enables institutional investors to hedge or speculate on the collective credit risk of these companies without managing five separate positions. Notional CDS trading on these hyperscalers reached $4.6 billion in Q1 2026, versus $759 million in Q1 2025, representing a sixfold increase in twelve months. Oracle’s five-year CDS spread hit a record 212-215 basis points by late July 2026, while Meta Platforms and Alphabet only became active CDS reference entities in November 2025. Goldman Sachs has since followed JPMorgan with similar instruments, confirming this new market segment is taking shape.
