A Canadian woman of Chinese origin was arrested Friday in Belgium on suspicion of espionage at NATO’s military headquarters in Mons. The investigation was launched after NATO security services tipped off Belgian military intelligence. She is accused of spying on behalf of a third country and of being a member of a criminal organization. A SHAPE spokesperson said no impact on NATO operations or operational readiness has been detected. Last year, 32 NATO nations agreed to invest 5 percent of their gross domestic product on defense.
