Hyundai pours $6.2 billion into physical AI as automakers race to become robotics companies

Hyundai Motor Group, the world’s third-largest automaker, formalized a partnership with NVIDIA called the « Physical AI Alliance » during a meeting between Executive Chair Euisun Chung and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. The flagship Saemangeum project, estimated at 9 trillion won or approximately $6.2 billion, will serve as a research center and testing ground for integrating AI solutions across the group’s operations. This alliance covers three main areas: autonomous driving, humanoid robotics, and AI-powered manufacturing. This initiative represents a strategic shift for Hyundai, leveraging its expertise in designing and manufacturing complex machines to compete against software-only companies in the robotics sector.
