Heavy outflows from US-listed Bitcoin ETFs highlight the token’s fragility

US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs just recorded their worst half-year on record, with net redemptions totaling $5.4 billion in the first six months of 2026. June was particularly devastating, with approximately $4.5 billion exiting spot Bitcoin ETF products, the largest monthly outflow ever recorded for this asset class. Over an eight-week period from mid-May through early July, cumulative redemptions surpassed $8 billion. A brief two-week respite saw around $273 million flow back in around mid-July, but outflows resumed by July 24, leaving cumulative year-to-date net outflows in the $5.4 to $5.8 billion range.
