Greg Abel starts spending Berkshire Hathaway’s record cash pile

Greg Abel, who became CEO of Berkshire Hathaway in January 2026 after Warren Buffett’s 64-year tenure, has begun deploying the company’s massive capital reserves at a significant pace in the first half of the year. Berkshire finalized an all-cash acquisition of Taylor Morrison Home Corporation on July 24, 2026, for approximately $6.8 billion, representing a 24% premium to the prior share price. The conglomerate also built a stake in Alphabet worth approximately $31.5 billion, investing $23 billion across multiple transactions including a $10 billion private placement completed in June 2026. Berkshire also restarted share buybacks with $234 million in the first quarter of 2026, bringing its total cash position to $397.4 billion.
