France deployed a military A400M cargo plane to drop tons of flame retardants on wildfires raging in the southwest of the country near Bordeaux. European wildfires this week displaced more than 250,000 people, including some 70,000 in central Spain where one man died in Manises. The Tour de France shortened its final stage on Sunday as emergency services were redeployed to fight the fires. The Gironde blaze destroyed around 140 homes and remained about 30 kilometers west of Bordeaux, growing into what authorities described as a firestorm. Several European nations are sending aircraft and firefighters to assist France and Spain in battling the blazes.
