Fermi Inc. has appointed Lee McIntire as its new chief executive, ending a months-long leadership vacuum. McIntire, former CEO of CH2M HILL and former leader of TerraPower, took office on August 11, 2026, after serving as an independent board member. He replaces co-founder Toby Neugebauer, who was fired in April and remains the company’s largest shareholder while involved in suspended proxy campaigns and ongoing legal disputes with the board. Fermi, trading on NASDAQ under ticker FRMI, is developing Project Matador in the Texas Panhandle with a targeted capacity of 11 to 17 gigawatts including nuclear power. McIntire’s nuclear energy background is expected to be instrumental in executing the company’s energy development roadmap.
