Federal Reserve’s Warsh scraps forward guidance as Goldman Sachs warns of growing pains

Kevin Warsh, the new Federal Reserve chair, has eliminated forward guidance from the central bank’s toolkit. At the June 17, 2026 FOMC meeting, the committee released its policy statement without the forward-looking language that markets had relied on for over a decade, and Warsh also declined to submit his own interest-rate projection in the quarterly dot plot. Goldman Sachs has characterized this transition as producing « growing pains, » with potential for higher volatility in short-term interest rates. The broader concern is market misalignment, as a Fed that prioritizes flexibility over transparency creates more room for mispricing, potentially leading to sharper corrections.
