The European Union has added cryptocurrency exchange HTX, formerly Huobi Global, to a package of sanctions targeting Russia over its war on Ukraine. The exchange is among 18 entities listed for providing crypto-asset or payment services in circumvention of EU restrictive measures. The European Council’s Thursday decision aims to cut off financial support for Russia’s war by prohibiting transactions between these entities and EU operators. HTX stated that regulatory compliance remains its absolute top priority. On the same day, the EU also prohibited Belarusian nationals and residents from owning, controlling or managing crypto exchanges and digital asset service providers under the MiCA framework.
