Democratic lawmakers prepare to oppose Republican crypto bills

Seven Senate Democrats have formally rejected the revised text of the CLARITY Act, citing ethics concerns related to conflicts of interest in the digital asset sector. The bill, formally known as H.R. 3633, was passed by the House of Representatives on July 17, 2025, with a 294-134 vote, including 78 Democrats crossing the aisle. The White House attempted to revise the ethics provisions to balance Republican innovation-friendly priorities with Democratic anti-corruption demands, but Senate Democrats rejected the proposal. Congress adjourned without scheduling a vote on this legislation, which remains the most ambitious crypto market structure bill in years.
