DeepSeek, the Chinese AI startup, has established official social media accounts around August 12 and posted job listings to build a team dedicated to AI agents. This team, called the Harness team, will develop an autonomous coding tool designed to compete with Anthropic’s Claude Code, Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot, and OpenAI’s Codex. Founded in July 2023 with backing from the High-Flyer hedge fund, the company currently employs between 160 and 200 people and aims to double the size of each team. In June, over 30 positions were open. Despite US restrictions on advanced AI chips, DeepSeek has successfully developed competitive models such as DeepSeek-V3 and R1.
