A hacker stole 501,650 dollars in USDC from a victim on the Base network through a phishing attack on August 6, 2026. When attempting to convert the funds to ETH on Uniswap V4 without slippage protection, the transaction was exposed in the mempool. A MEV bot then executed a sandwich attack, extracting approximately 370,000 dollars in profit for just 3.5 ETH in gas fees. The hacker only retained roughly 129,000 dollars while the victim lost their entire initial investment, with no funds recovered to date.
