Crypto home invasions jump 20x as wrench-attack exposure hits $124 million

CertiK recorded approximately $124.1 million in losses and ransom demands in H1 2026, an 11.8-fold increase from $10.5 million in H1 2025. Crypto-related home invasions surged from 1 case in H1 2025 to 20 cases in H1 2026, a 20-fold jump. In total, 52 verified incidents were counted, up 33.3% year-over-year. Europe accounted for 39 cases and France for 33 cases, indicating a clear concentration in the available data. These physical attacks bypass digital defenses by coercing holders into revealing keys or authorizing transfers, making hardware wallet custody alone insufficient.
