Coinbase’s Jesse Pollak Hands Base App to Cobie, Says Social Bet Was ‘Definitively Wrong’

Jesse Pollak, the Coinbase executive who created Base, handed the leadership of the consumer Base app to Jordan Fish, known as Cobie, while admitting he had made a mistake by betting for two years on onchain social products and creator coins. Base remains the fifth-largest blockchain by total value locked at $4.54 billion, and the largest Ethereum Layer 2 by that measure, ahead of Arbitrum’s $1.23 billion. Coinbase previously acquired Fish’s fundraising platform Echo for an estimated $375 million in cash and stock last year. For 2026, Pollak set three priorities for Base: winning trading, payments, and agents, signaling a major strategic pivot for the network.
