Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, responded to Jensen Huang’s first-ever post on X, backing open-weight artificial intelligence models. Huang had shared an open letter titled « Open Weights and American AI Leadership », co-signed by Nvidia, Meta, Microsoft and IBM, arguing that open models are critical for expanding AI access, encouraging competition and maintaining U.S. technological leadership. Armstrong revealed that Coinbase supports strong American open-weight models and is already moving more of its workloads toward such systems. He stated that a fine-tuned model trained on Coinbase’s 100,000 internal compliance cases could outperform a general-purpose frontier model for regulatory tasks. Elon Musk, Sam Altman and Jack Dorsey also reacted positively to Huang’s position.
