China is significantly increasing its investments in green energy as the ongoing Iran conflict drives down global oil demand, according to the Financial Times. The International Energy Agency projected a decline in world oil demand in 2026, the first such decrease since the pandemic. The country has directed over 43 billion dollars toward low-carbon projects, focusing on expanding its power grid and renewable energy capabilities. On prediction markets, the probability of crude oil reaching a new all-time high has decreased, dropping from 9% to 6.8% by September 30 and from 18% to 14.5% by December 31.
