According to Chainalysis, the success rate of violent crypto theft attempts fell to 26 percent in the first half of 2026, down from 67 percent in 2024. Only 12 out of 46 attacks succeeded. France has become the global epicenter of these attacks with 30 documented incidents in the first six months of 2026, compared to 19 for all of 2025. Despite the lower success rate, financial damage remains significant with over 30 million dollars stolen in H1 2026. Chainalysis estimates total attempted or partially mitigated crypto thefts at approximately 107 million dollars for 2026. The surge in France is attributed to the 2024 breach of tax agency records that exposed the identities of crypto investors.
