BSE Ltd. to join Nifty 50 index as NSE prepares for blockbuster IPO

Share

BSE Ltd., operator of the Bombay Stock Exchange and Asia’s oldest stock market, will replace IT giant Wipro in the Nifty 50 index, effective in the latter half of July 2026. This inclusion comes as the National Stock Exchange (NSE), BSE’s larger rival, is finalizing plans for what could be one of India’s largest-ever IPOs, with a listing expected on BSE itself. Adding a direct competitor to its own flagship benchmark index is an unusual move that has drawn attention from market participants. Inclusion in the Nifty 50 automatically triggers massive purchases from passive funds and ETFs replicating the index, which should support BSE’s share price. An investment of 100,000 rupees made at BSE’s IPO would have grown to between 8 and 9 million rupees by mid-2026.
