BlackRock, Coinbase and Strategy Pledge $15M to Quantum-Proof Bitcoin

Nine major Bitcoin institutions, including BlackRock, Coinbase and Strategy, launched the Bitcoin Security Consortium with a combined pledge of $15 million over three years to fund network security research, including defenses against quantum computing. Galaxy also announced its own $5 million program for developers working on post-quantum solutions, which adds to the collective effort. ARK Invest experts estimate that roughly 35% of the total Bitcoin supply already sits in addresses potentially vulnerable to future quantum attacks. Researchers at Project Eleven identified 2029 as a possible date for Q-Day, the moment when a quantum computer could compromise Bitcoin’s cryptography. The consortium does not centrally manage funds: each member directs its own contributions to the developers and organizations of its choice.
