Volunteer developers working as the Bitcoin Red Team detected 4,962 security vulnerabilities across 390 Bitcoin projects during a 30-hour audit. Of the 391 codebases reviewed, only one came back completely clean. Reviewers classified 720 findings as high or critical severity, including 85 immediately critical issues. The audit was triggered by the Coldcard hardware wallet flaw, where a defective random number generator enabled the theft of 1,596 BTC, worth approximately $130 million according to Galaxy Research. Crypto libraries generated the highest volume of findings (1,385), while privacy tools showed the highest rate of serious flaws at 24%.
