Bitcoin ‘anti-spam’ fork halts after mining two blocks

BIP-110, a controversial Bitcoin soft fork designed to filter non-financial data from transactions, produced exactly two blocks before stalling. On August 9, this minority fork halted at block 961,633, while the main chain advanced by 48 to 57 blocks over eight hours. The proposal required 55% of mining hashpower to signal support for lock-in, but only approximately 0.15% backed the initiative. PlanB and Michael Saylor had warned about risks to Bitcoin’s neutrality, arguing that filtering transactions based on content could set a dangerous precedent. Exchanges Coinbase and Kraken reported no operational disruptions during the split.
