Changpeng Zhao, founder of Binance, has reignited the debate on Bitcoin’s scarcity. According to his estimates, over 20.07 million BTC have been mined so far out of a maximum supply of 21 million, leaving only 4.4% yet to be extracted. CZ claims, however, that 10 to 20% of Bitcoin already mined could be lost, stuck, or permanently irrecoverable due to lost private keys or inaccessible funds. This would mean the number of Bitcoin actually available for buying, selling, or transferring could be substantially lower than the total number of tokens mined.
