Chicago-based multi-strategy hedge fund Balyasny Asset Management, managing approximately $77 billion in assets, has disclosed ownership of 3.4 million shares in SpaceX, representing a stake worth roughly $459 million at the IPO price. SpaceX went public on the Nasdaq on June 12, 2026, at $135 per share under the ticker SPCX, with the stock surging nearly 20% on debut and peaking around $226. The position amounts to approximately 0.6% of Balyasny’s total assets under management. An insider lockup expiration is expected in early August 2026, when shares held by employees, early investors, and insiders become eligible for open-market sales. With roughly $77 billion in AUM, Balyasny has the balance sheet to absorb short-term drawdowns that might force smaller players to sell.
