Apple trained its own AI model for China with Alibaba’s support as it races to bring Apple Intelligence to Chinese customers. China’s Cyberspace Administration registered Apple’s generative AI service last month, which could make Apple the first foreign company allowed to operate its own proprietary AI model in China. Apple plans to pair its model with Alibaba’s Qwen and Baidu’s technology, with Apple Intelligence expected to reach Chinese iPhones through an iOS update in the coming months. This move follows a difficult year for Apple’s AI division, marked by delays and a $250 million settlement over claims that it misled iPhone buyers about AI features unavailable at launch.
