Two of Abu Dhabi’s main sovereign wealth funds maintain significant Bitcoin positions. Mubadala Investment Company holds a 490 million dollar stake in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, representing its second-largest position in its entire 13F portfolio. The Abu Dhabi Investment Council revealed a 273.6 million dollar position in the popular Bitcoin exchange-traded fund, its biggest holding. Unlike the United States, whose Bitcoin reserves mostly originated from law enforcement seizures, the UAE’s holdings stem primarily from domestic mining activity. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust now manages 47.3 billion dollars in assets, making it the most successful Bitcoin ETF since the SEC approved such funds in January 2024.
