Iran launched anti-ship missiles from Qeshm Island and its southern coastline toward the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman. Qeshm, Iran’s largest island in the Persian Gulf, has been transformed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps into a fortified launch platform with underground missile storage facilities that were publicly revealed in 2021. The Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately 21 million barrels of oil pass daily, is the world’s most critical oil chokepoint. Between May and July 2026, US forces conducted multiple operations targeting Iranian military infrastructure on the island, while US Central Command carried out counterstrikes against Qeshm missile sites in June 2026. On August 10, 2026, launches from the same area reportedly targeted an oil tanker off the coast of Oman.
