Malick Thiaw, Newcastle’s 25-year-old centre-back, scored an equalizer in a pre-season friendly against Bayer Leverkusen on August 15. Signed by Newcastle in August 2025 for a base fee of £30 million plus an additional £4.3 million in performance-related add-ons, Thiaw secured a draw for his team against his former youth club. The German defender had previously impressed last season by scoring twice in a 4-1 victory against Everton on November 29, 2025, earning Player of the Match honors in the process.
