Berkshire adds $17 billion to Alphabet stake

Berkshire Hathaway added $17 billion of Alphabet shares in the second quarter, making the Google parent the third largest holding in its equity portfolio. Berkshire owns nearly 106 million Alphabet Class A and C shares, valued at around $36.6 billion, roughly $1.5 billion ahead of Coca-Cola’s position ($35.1 billion) but well behind Apple ($69.7 billion) and American Express ($51.9 billion). Roughly 60% of the 48.1 million shares added during the quarter were purchased directly from Alphabet in a $10 billion private placement announced in early June, suggesting around $7 billion were bought on the open market.
