Vals AI, an AI benchmarking startup, has raised $40 million in a Series A round led by Andreessen Horowitz. The company, which reached an estimated annual recurring revenue of $1.3 million by late 2025, develops benchmarks measuring the performance of large language models on real-world tasks such as financial analysis, coding, and legal research. Its flagship index, the Vals Index, currently ranks Claude Fable 5 at the top with a score of 75.14%. The funding will enable the company to expand its sector coverage and launch new continuous model monitoring tools.
