A user lost over $100,000 in USDT after copying a fraudulent wallet address from their transaction history. The attacker had poisoned the wallet 66 to 69 days earlier by sending tiny dust transfers from an address similar to the legitimate recipient’s. Scammers generate lookalike addresses that match the first and last characters of the original address, then wait for the victim to copy and paste without verification. The attacker then swapped the USDT for 52.8 ETH on Uniswap V3 in just 72 seconds to avoid potential fund freezing by Tether. Between late 2025 and early 2026, Ethereum-related losses from address poisoning reached $62 million.
