Bank of Korea Breaks 13-Year Streak With Gold ETF Purchase

The Bank of Korea has disclosed a 250 million dollar position in a gold ETF, marking its first gold-linked investment in 13 years. This stake of 679,765 SPDR Gold Shares, valued at 250.4 million dollars, represents roughly 6.4% of a 3.89 billion dollar portfolio filed with the SEC. The purchase gives the central bank exposure to gold prices without altering its physical reserves, which remain unchanged at about 104.4 tons since 2013. Other central banks combined added a record net 289 tons in the second quarter, according to the World Gold Council.
