Barcelona rules out Cristian Romero transfer as Flick backs current defensive options

FC Barcelona has officially ruled out signing Cristian Romero, the Tottenham centre-back. Manager Hansi Flick confirmed the club will not pursue the Argentine defender, ending weeks of summer speculation with a reported price tag around €50 million. Romero had reportedly held off other offers, including one from Inter Milan, while waiting for Camp Nou to make a decision. Flick justified the decision by expressing satisfaction with his current defensive options, which include Pau Cubarsí, Gerard Martín, and Andreas Christensen. Barcelona’s significant debt burden also played a role in the club’s decision not to commit to such a substantial financial outlay at this stage of the transfer window.
