Elon Musk plans to build Terafab, a 100-million-square-foot semiconductor manufacturing facility in Grimes County, Texas, more than five times the size of the world’s current largest building, the New Century Global Center in Chengdu. The first phase of this project represents an investment of more than $16.8 billion and is expected to create 3,000 jobs. SpaceX and Tesla will operate the facility designed to produce more than 1 terawatt of compute annually, combining logic, memory, and advanced packaging. SpaceX, which went public in June, raised $75 billion in its IPO but reported a $541 million loss in the first quarter despite $7.8 billion in revenue. Texas has granted SpaceX a $30 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant to support this major project.
