Kinesis Gold (KAU), a token backed by physical gold, appeared to surge more than 110% on CoinGecko on Monday. KAU briefly showed a 24-hour low near $66 before returning to around $140, while gold itself had not moved significantly. The most likely explanation is a market data problem linked to the KAU/C1USD trading pair on the Kinesis exchange: if CoinGecko temporarily valued C1USD at around $0.48 instead of $1, a conversion would bring KAU’s price back to roughly $67, creating the appearance of a 110% gain once C1USD returned to $1. Reported daily trading volume also jumped sharply to more than $8 million. This was a pricing glitch, not a real market rally.
