Google has announced the construction of the Nuvem submarine cable, stretching approximately 7,000 kilometers from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to Sines, Portugal, with landing points in Bermuda and the Azores. This system, fully funded and operated by Google through its subsidiary Starfish Infrastructure, will offer a capacity of 384 terabits per second thanks to 16 fiber pairs. Scheduled to become operational in the second half of 2026, it is the first transatlantic cable entirely owned by Google, breaking away from the traditional consortium model used in this sector. This infrastructure represents a 54% increase in capacity compared to the Dunant cable launched in 2020, reflecting the rapid growth in bandwidth demand related to artificial intelligence and cloud services.
