Vitalik Buterin has presented a major overhaul of Ethereum’s technological roadmap, replacing the old six-phase plan with three architectural layers: consensus, data, and execution. The new strategy makes quantum computer protection an absolute priority, introducing a post-quantum public key registry and LeanSPHINCS signatures. Verkle trees, under development for years, have been officially abandoned in favor of Poseidon binary trees. Ethereum is also integrating first-class privacy tools directly into the network’s base layer, along with advance gas pricing mechanisms to protect users from sudden fee spikes. Buterin plans to use modern AI tools for end-to-end formal verification of the protocol, deemed impossible to perform manually given the volume of code.
