Bitcoin’s BIP-110 fork is back, but its backers want to replace the miners and change PoW

Bitcoin’s BIP-110 proposal failed to gain miner support during its activation weekend, producing only two blocks before stalling at height 961,633. Only about 0.15% of hashpower sided with the minority fork, while roughly 99.85% remained on the dominant chain, which would make a first difficulty adjustment take about 25 years at that rate. Supporters, led by developer Luke Dashjr, are now pushing to change the proof-of-work algorithm to create a separate mining ecosystem and eliminate what they call bad actors who caused the activation to fail. Roughnecks, the pseudonymous group that mined the minority chain’s two blocks, announced it would resume mining on that branch while preparing for a PoW change. Separately, several Bitcoin developers are demanding Dashjr’s removal as BIP editor, accusing him of using his position inconsistently during BIP-110’s assignment and merge process.
