Crypto’s first quantum attack will look like an unexplained breach: Quantus founder

The first successful quantum attack against modern cryptography will likely not manifest as a spectacular theft of Satoshi Nakamoto’s Bitcoin but as a wave of seemingly inexplicable wallet breaches. Christopher Smith, founder of Quantus Network, explains that a sufficiently powerful quantum computer could derive a private key from an exposed public key on the blockchain, making any attack undetectable. Analysts consider that initial targets could be very high-value keys like Tether’s minting key, allowing token creation from nothing. Google has advanced its post-quantum migration timeline to 2029, while estimates for Q-day vary between 2028 and the early 2030s.
