Brazil mandates 24-hour delay on crypto transfers over $10K starting 2027

Brazil’s Central Bank published Resolution BCB No. 584/2026 on August 7, 2026, mandating a 24-hour hold on crypto transfers exceeding $10,000 from Brazilian exchanges. This measure, effective January 1, 2027, targets transfers to self-custody wallets and foreign virtual asset service providers, giving authorities a window for risk analysis. VASPs must document all decisions regarding these holds and notify affected customers, with the possibility of releasing funds early if no risk is identified. This regulation builds on Brazil’s 2022 Virtual Assets Law and could increase costs for legitimate users while reducing the competitiveness of domestic platforms.
