The Israeli government approved on August 9 the transfer of approximately 1 billion shekels, around $333 million, to the defense budget. Most of this amount, 850 million shekels, came from grants originally earmarked for Intel’s semiconductor expansion in Kiryat Gat, funds that remained untouched. Intel froze construction and investment at the facility since June 2024 as part of a global spending review. The company already received 1.5 billion shekels in 2024, while a 1.3 billion shekel grant planned for 2025 had already been canceled. A 1.06 billion shekel allocation for 2026 technically remains in the state budget, but is contingent on Intel resuming its investment activities.
