Two drones were spotted flying over a German military base in Mechernich, western Germany, on Thursday night, the German Joint Force Command said on Saturday. On Tuesday, a drone carrying explosives was discovered at Leipzig/Halle Airport in southeastern Germany before being defused. This airport is a major hub for international freight and the delivery of equipment to Ukraine, as well as for NATO operations. In 2024, an incendiary device was ignited at a logistics center at the same airport in what Western officials suspect was a plot organized by Russian intelligence. Western officials have accused Russia of staging dozens of attacks and incidents across Europe since the invasion of Ukraine.
