The Pentagon is pressing the U.S. defense industry to accelerate weapons production to replenish depleted stockpiles from the ongoing war with Iran. Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg gave defense companies 21 days to submit plans to dramatically speed up delivery schedules and expand production capacity. According to an analysis by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Patriot interceptor stocks have dropped by at least 65 percent since the conflict began, falling from 2,330 to fewer than 827 units. THAAD interceptors have also declined by 38 percent despite replenishment efforts. A defense spending bill is currently stalled in Congress, with lawmakers resisting the White House request to increase Pentagon spending to $1.5 trillion.
