Bitcoin ETFs pull in $1B in weekly inflows, best performance since April

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted nearly $1 billion in net weekly inflows, marking their strongest performance since April. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) alone contributed $757.5 million over the seven-day period, including a single-day haul of $128.3 million on August 5. The inflows followed a Coldcard hardware wallet firmware exploit that drained between $114 million and $130 million in Bitcoin from over 5,200 wallets, reigniting the debate over self-custody versus regulated custody. While analysts caution against directly linking the Coldcard hack to ETF inflows, institutional-grade custody solutions offered by regulated ETFs through firms like Coinbase and Fidelity appear increasingly attractive to fence-sitting investors.
